What is Reality Illinois?

Reality Illinois, the Teen Advisory Board for the DuPage County Health Department, is a group of teens dedicated to breaking stigma, promoting mental health, and inspiring healthy choices. Become involved in designing impactful programs, empowering your peers, and making a real difference for fellow high school students!


Eligibility

Reality is open to all high school students in DuPage County.


Development Opportunities

  • Network with teens and community partners throughout DuPage County
  • Learn about local opportunities to earn service hours
  • Build your resume by learning new skills
  • Develop your leadership skills through sharing local substance use prevention and mental health resources
  • Pursue personal growth through self-discovery and improvement, developing interpersonal skills, and expanding your knowledge and understanding of yourself and the world


Time Commitment

During the school year, Reality meets once a month for 60-minutes.

Want More of a Leadership Role? Join Teen Ambassadors!

Teen Ambassadors are the executive board for Reality Illinois, offering DuPage County high school students the opportunity to dive deeper and develop their leadership, advocacy, and local policy skills. Open to all Reality Illinois participants, Teen Ambassadors take an active role in shaping the teen substance use and mental health initiatives that will promote positive change in their communities throughout the school year. Past Reality Projects

  1. 1 Teens attending the signing of the Tobacco 21 law with Governor JB Pritzker.
  2. 2 Teens accepting a National Safety Council award.
  3. 3 Teens participating in a virtual town hall discussing the mental health impacts of COVID-19 lockdowns.
  4. 4 Teens recording a vaping public service announcement (PSA) with WGN.
  5. 5 Teens who completed Teen Mental Health First Aid training.
  6. 6 Teens practicing yoga together during an afternoon session.
  7. 7 Teens bonding with comfort dogs during a monthly meeting.
  8. 8 Teens and PLT members participating in a sticker shock campaign.
  9. 9 Teens spending time outdoors and connecting with nature.
  10. 10 Teens helping clean up tobacco-related litter at DuPage County parks.
  11. 11 Teens making blankets to donate to Project Linus.
