Shining a Light on Mental Health Issues in Schools

Mental health is an indicator of overall health and can be related to substance use and other problems. It is important for adults who work with youth, to understand mental illness, be able to recognize symptoms of mental illness and be equipped with the skills to know how to respond. The DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team and the Juvenile Justice Council have partnered with NAMI DuPage to bring this customized training to school staff and administration.

The Power of Prevention-How to Achieve a Healthier School Climate

This session will provide current data on substance use and mental health for DuPage County youth as reported by the Illinois Youth Survey. The session will also provide up to date information on hot topics and trends for the main substances youth are reporting using, including; vaping and tobacco use, marijuana, alcohol and opioids. Finally, the session will provide information on DuPage County resources that can help teachers tackle these hard-hitting topics with their students and the families they serve.

The Glenbard Parent Series engages top experts, parents and school staff to become proactive and informed in pursuit of the mutual goal to strengthen our communities.
